Get to Know: Project Manager Kara Berhow
Start off by telling everyone a little about yourself:
I am a mama to one feisty almost 7 year old named Kamryn, and also a few furry companions … OK a lot of them. My husband and I enjoy being a foster family for area rescues, so our house is always full. Right now, we have 6 dogs, 4 cats and 3 rabbits taking up residence with us.
What is your web background?
I began working for the college I attended right out of school as their (first ever) marketing team's graphic designer. I then helped to start a web design business with one of my college professors that was later purchased by a Des Moines area web company, where I worked as a project manager and lead graphic designer. We grew that business from 4 employees to 30 in a little more than 6 years, and I learned to love the web industry.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
Apart from being a crazy dog lady, I really enjoy creating art in all forms, and have a small commission-based art business. I also really like bluegrass music and attending concerts of any genre.
Where is your favorite place to eat in Des Moines?
I just really like food. Malo is wonderful. Also, I won’t turn down any meal that is to be paired with a margarita.
Best book or blog you've read lately?
There is a quirky blogger named Jenny Lawson who I find hilarious. Her blog is called The Bloggess, and she wrote a book called, Let’s Pretend This Never Happened. I had to take breaks while reading it, due to laugher-induced stomachaches.
What is one thing you could not live a day without?
My iPhone. Sometimes my husband threatens rehab to curb my addiction.
What are you loving at the moment?
I really like clothes, and I am super excited about the faux leather leggings that are in right now. Can one be a clothes geek? If so, that’s me.
Anything else we should know?
I am obsessed with the Iowa State Fair. I go as many times as I can every year, and my daughter and I enjoy singing the State Fair show tune on the way to opening day.
