Using VTO to Make a Difference: Holly’s Volunteer Experience with Hold Our Youth Tight Using VTO to Make a Difference

At Visionary, creating meaningful digital experiences is just part of our story—we believe true impact goes beyond the screen. That’s why we’re deeply committed to supporting the communities where we live, work, and grow.

One of the ways we put this commitment into action is through our Volunteer Time Off (VTO) program. VTO gives our team members dedicated time during the workweek to support the causes they care about most—whether it’s lending a hand at a local nonprofit, organizing a community event, or simply being present for those in need. By encouraging our employees to step away from their screens and into service, we’re not just building better digital solutions—we’re helping build a better world, one act of kindness at a time.

Recently, our own Holly exemplified this spirit by using her VTO hours to volunteer with Hold Our Youth Tight (HOYT), a compassionate nonprofit rooted in Winterset, Iowa. HOYT was founded with a powerful mission: to bring awareness to the reality of infant loss, offer support to families navigating unimaginable grief, and build community through shared remembrance and acts of service.

From organizing family-friendly events and raffles to coordinating superhero meet-and-greets and moments of reflection, Holly helped bring joy and connection to those who need it most. Her involvement highlights what VTO is all about—showing up, giving back, and turning compassion into action.

Holly’s HOYT Experience: Superheroes and Community Spirit

Holly is not just a volunteer—she’s a board member, deeply involved in planning HOYT’s annual fundraising events. She rolled up her sleeves for HOYT’s 8th Annual Triathlon Fundraising event (held June 6-7), helping with everything from setup to cleanup over four busy days.

The event wasn’t your typical triathlon—it featured three fun games: trap shooting, bags (cornhole), and sand volleyball. But the real highlight was the vibrant “Superheroes” theme, which brought out both classic heroes like Batman and Wonder Woman, and real-life heroes such as local firefighters and Winterset High School seniors dressed up and ready to inspire.

Beyond the games, families enjoyed:

  • Inflatable bounce houses and yard games
  • Free ice cream, popsicles, and popcorn
  • Food trucks serving up tasty treats
  • A selfie stand and temporary tattoos for the kids
  • A live auction, raffles, and a “Meet a Superhero” experience
  • A breathtaking fireworks show to end the day

Check out some of the fun here on HOYT’s Facebook page and watch the event highlights on YouTube.

Why VTO Matters at Visionary

Visionary’s VTO program gives our team the freedom and flexibility to engage with causes they care about. For Holly, it meant being able to dedicate meaningful time to a nonprofit that’s transforming lives in Madison County.

Through programs like this, Visionary fosters a culture of generosity and community involvement, knowing that when our employees thrive outside work, they bring even more passion and creativity back to our projects.

HOYT’s Big Goals for 2025

Holly and the HOYT team are busy making big plans for 2025, including:

  • Installing an Expression Swing at the Hoyt & Sullivan Memorial Playground
  • Awarding scholarships to seniors across Madison County
  • Expanding Hoyt’s Hangry House & Sullivan’s Snack Shack to more schools
  • Hosting family fun nights at the Winterset Aquatic Center and movie nights at the Iowa Theater
  • Supporting youth sports, school assemblies, and community initiatives
