Get to Know: Software Engineer, Tony Ruchti
What’s your favorite thing about working at Visionary?
It’s a family atmosphere here, and a general understanding that our own family comes first.
A lot of the people in the office like to put on their headphone and listen to music while they’re working. What are some of the songs you listen to when you need to get ‘in the zone’ and hammer out a project?
My playlist mostly consists of music from Halestorm and Godsmack, with a dash of Nightwish.
What have you learned while working at Visionary?
I’ve learned a lot of things over the years at Visionary, from technical skills, to learning how to use different libraries, to general business skills, such as how key communication skills are.
One of my favorite libraries to use right now is Highcharts, a JavaScript library for creating charts and graphs.
If you were on an island and could only bring 3 things, what would you bring?
A barrel of rum, a machete, and a fire starter. I’d go a little crazy without all the technology, but I’d be able to manage.
What do you do for fun?
I’m on a couple bowling leagues and a softball league. When it’s nice out I’ll be riding my motorcycle and going to the drive-in on the weekends.
What's your motto?
Live in the now.
What is one thing that makes you really happy?
The satisfaction of completing a big project after running into many obstacles along the way that made it seem like it might not happen.
In 2014, Tony and a bunch of our developers went to [php]Tek in Chicago. Check out his write up about what he learned at the conference.
