Get To Know: Project Lead Andrew Neller
Meet Andrew Neller, Visionary's newest team member bringing a sharp eye for detail and a calm, steady presence to everything he touches. With a background in Electrical Engineering and a career pivot into Project Management, he has quickly proven himself as someone who thinks things through, gets things done, and makes the people around him better. We sat down with him to learn a little more about the person behind the work — and let's just say he did not disappoint. We are thrilled to have him on the team!
Start by telling everyone about yourself:
I was born and raised in Ankeny, Iowa, where I still live today close to my brother, sister, and pretty much everyone I care about. I went to Iowa State University for Electrical Engineering to follow in my family's footsteps, but graduating at the start of the pandemic in 2020 redirected my path into Project Management — and honestly, I have loved every minute of it since.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
I keep myself pretty busy! I exercise regularly, read a lot, and enjoy card games and video games. I also play Dungeons and Dragons, and every single Tuesday night you will find me playing BINGO with my grandparents. Yes, really. No, I will not apologize for it.
What have you enjoyed about Visionary so far?
The amazing people, the wonderful environment, and the phenomenal snacks. In that order. Maybe.
What is your favorite place to eat in Des Moines?
I live in Ankeny, so I do not make it into Des Moines for food all that often — there are plenty of great spots closer to home these days. But when I do head into the city, Tupelo Honey on Grand Avenue is my go-to. I am a sucker for breakfast food and I have been back more than once, which pretty much says it all.
What is your favorite season and why?
Early spring or late fall — that sweet spot when it is nice enough to be outside without being absolutely swarmed by bugs. If you live in Iowa, you understand completely.
What is the best book or blog you've read lately?
This Inevitable Ruin from the Dungeon Crawler series by Matt Dinniman. If you are into that kind of thing, do yourself a favor and pick it up.
What is something you could not go one day without?
Music. Take away the obvious answers like my phone and computer, and it comes down to music every time. There is not a part of my day that does not involve it — whether I need to get pumped up, block everything out, or just decompress. It is always there.
Words to live by:
“Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.” It applies to just about everything. Having the ability to do something does not automatically make it the right call — and slowing down to think it through first makes all the difference.
What are you loving at the moment?
A hot cup of tea on a cold day. Simple, honest, and exactly right.
