I want a cheap website
When you need a website for your business, what is the most important thing to you?
Let me guess, price? Absolutely that is important, but are you considering all the costs associated with building and maintaining a website?
Time wasted, customer service, and technical issues: these are all potential, unexpected costs that can bite you when you least expect.
We hear this a lot: “I know someone that can build my site for (insert dollar amount here).”
OK. Does that person have the necessary tools as well as the access to servers and databases that will keep your information secure?
Does that person have an education in software engineering or design and know how your users will interact with your content or navigate your site effectively?
Does that person have multiple testing processes to guarantee your site won’t go live with obvious bugs still in place? Are they organized with set timelines and deadlines to insure you’re up and running on time?
Perhaps more importantly than any of the above, does that person provide you the best communication and customer service?
You may think you’re getting a deal, but make sure your “nephew’s best friend’s brother” who is going to make your website has all these disciplines because that could be your biggest cost.
