Start off by telling everyone about yourself!

Hello everyone! My name is Kristin Lang and I am a Project Lead at Visionary. I grew up on a farm in Oskaloosa, Iowa but went to school in Pella at Pella Christian. After graduating high school, I moved to Des Moines and attended Des Moines Area Community College. I worked full time and went to classes in the evening. I studied computer science.

What is your professional background?

Before Visionary, for 3 years I was a Project Manager for a small company who built and designed websites for the auto industry. For 11 years, I was an Internet Sales and Marketing Manager for a large local luxury auto dealer. Then for 3 years I was an Operations Manager for a small software medical company.

My role At Visionary is a Project Lead for a large international shipping company. I help clients with their questions about shipping, discounts and everything in between.

What do you do outside of work?

Outside of work my husband and I stay busy with our 3 kids and their multiple activities (softball, baseball, soccer, basketball). I am basically an unpaid Uber driver going from one practice to the other.

I enjoy going to our local CrossFit gym a few mornings a week. In my free time, I enjoy bringing old furniture back to life. I am the co-owner of a furniture refinishing business, The Junk Lounge. We rehab old furniture. We just did an old record player, 100-year buffet, a kitchen table set that’s been in a family for 3 generations. You can see some of our work on our Junk Lounge Facebook page.

What have you enjoyed about Visionary so far?

I truly enjoy working at Visionary. Hands down, the best culture and work environment I have experienced throughout my career.

Where is your favorite place to eat in Des Moines?

My favorite places to eat in Des Moines are Skips and Tumea and Son’s. My absolute favorite dish is the seafood ravioli from Tumea’s!

What is your favorite season and why?

Springtime is my favorite time of year. Not only is nature coming back to life, but outdoor activities are as well.

Best book or blog you’ve read lately?

I have a lot of favorites but the most recent I’ve read are Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins, All the Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood, and Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan. I am involved with two book clubs and enjoy reading. I tell my kids it will hopefully keep my mind sharp for many years to come.

What are your words to live by?

The words that I live by are: “Life is short, live every moment like it’s going to be your last.”

I cannot wait to learn more about Visionary and become even more engrained in the culture!
